Top News Items

    • In Microsoft’s latest financial report, GamePass annual growth for fiscal 21 reached 37.5%, missing Microsoft’s target of 47.8%. The 37.5% growth in fiscal year 21 represents less than half the growth GamePass had in fiscal 20 when the base was a lot smaller so any growth then would be significantly higher. The latest subscription numbers released by Microsoft in January 2021 was 18 million.

    • Microsoft has announced a new 2TB ($400) and 512GB ($140) Seagate storage expansion cards for the Xbox Series X and S, expected early December.

    • The digital only release for GTA Trilogy Definitive Edition will be on 11th November and will include GTA 3, Vice City and San Andreas. The game will retail at $59.99. The PC version of the game will be a Rockstar Game Launcher exclusive. San Andreas will release on GamePass and GTA 3 will release on PlayStation Now when the Trilogy launches.

    • The Sony former exclusive console game, God of War, will release on Steam on the 14th January 2022 for €49.99. The game will include DLC content including several skins and extended gameplay. The game will support both a Sony DualSense controller as well a mouse and keyboard. God of War has so far sold just under 20 million units worldwide and just under 6 million units according to GSD tracked data.

    • The 2018 game Sea of Thieves has passed its 25 million player mark, according to its developer, Rare.

    • Dbrand is a Canadian company that makes faceplates for the PS5. Last week Sony issued them a cease-and-desist letter after the company taunted to sue. Dbrand subsequently took down its website only to launch it several days later with a new faceplate and a marketing campaign that made light of Sony’s legal threats.

    • EA will open a new studio in Seattle that will focus on making shooters. The name will be disclosed soon and the studio will be headed by Marcus Lehto, former creative director at Bungie.
