- Sony │ 2 New PlayStation CEOs as Fiscal year increases by +17% to $28B.
Sony’s president, Hiroki Totoki, will hand over his acting PlayStation CEO role to Hermen Hulst and Hideaki Nishino on the 1st of June.
Sony says its live service game hit Helldivers 2 is now PlayStation’s fastest-selling game launch ever, with sales “far exceeding expectations” at 12M copies sold across PC and PS5 in its first 12 weeks (beating the previous record of God of War Ragnarök, 11M units in 10 weeks). The success of Helldivers 2 bodes good and bad news. It could embolden Sony to invest more in its live service offerings, potentially at the expense of single-player narrative games.- GameStop short sellers got played again! The day trader Keith Gill, aka “Roaring Kitty,” who has stayed low these past 3 years after making a fortune on the short squeeze on GameStop, reached out to his fans on X to do it again… and they did.
- Embracer Group’s Crystal Dynamics has teamed up with Amazon MGM Studios and Prime to produce a new Tomb Raider TV show, penned by Phoebe Waller-Bridge. Amazon has already invested in Tomb Raider when it publishes the next game.
