Top News Items

    • Take Two posted its fiscal 2021 results. Revenue for the fiscal year increased by +9% to $3.4 billion and net income increased by +46% to $589 million. The increase in revenue is half the revenue generated between 2020 and 2019 fiscal. Total digital spending increased by +23% to $2.9 billion. Digital spending as a percentage of total revenue reached 87% compared to 63% in 2019.

    • GTA V will release for the PS5 and XS on 11 November 2021. These will mark the third consecutive PlayStation and Microsoft generation of consoles the game will have launched on.

    • Sega Sammy which owns SEGA reported their fiscal year 2021 which ended in March 2021. The “Consumer” category which covers video games generated ¥136 billion ($1.2 billion) in sales, +8% growth compared to fiscal 2020. Digital full game spending accounted for 64% of full game spending in fiscal 2021. This is 14 percentage points higher compared to fiscal 2020. As a result, digital full games spend grew by +40% year on year.

    • Embracer Group reported their fiscal year 2021 which ended in March 2021. Net sales increased +72% versus fiscal 2020 to SEK 5.3 billion ($630 million). Operating income increased +178% versus fiscal 2020 to SEK 1.0 million ($124 million). Game developments increased from 103 back in Q4’20 to 160 in Q4’21.

    • Czech developer, Bohemia Interactive, makers of DayZ and Arma3, released their financials for 2020. Revenue increased by +10% up to $48 million. In February of this year Tencent invested a minority stake in the company.

    • Apple’s CEO, Tim Cook, took the stand in the court case that Epic has brought against Apple over claims the company is using monopoly powers to stifle competition in the App Store. When asked if the App Store was profitable, Cook’s response was “you know, I have a feel, which is we are profitable."

    • Jim Ryan, CEO of PlayStation, gave an interview to GQ magazine and stated it was a “straightforward decision” to bring more PlayStation games to the PC.

    • According to numerous reports, Devolver Digital is planning an IPO by the end of the year. The IPO could raise up to $1 billion in share sales.

    • WarnerMedia which owns Warner Bros Interactive Entertainment has been merged with Discovery, under the parent company AT&T. The deal is worth $43 billion.
