    • Following the immediate invasion of Ukraine by Russia, some video game companies have taken to social media to show their support for Ukraine. STALKER studio GSC Games World posted a message on Twitter asking for financial aid for the Ukraine army. Ubisoft has helped their Ukrainian employees with relocation costs, Embrace Group has donated $1 million and Euro Truck Simulator developer SCS Software has donated €200,000.

    • Activision confirmed a Bloomberg report that there will be no new Call of Duty game scheduled for 2023. It will mark the first time since 2004 that an annual new Call of Duty title will not release. It will also mark the first full year the Call of Duty franchise will be owned by Microsoft. Activision also confirmed that Warzone 2 and Modern Warfare 2, both slated for 2022, are being designed from the “ground-up” by studio Infinity Ward.

    • EA’s dodgeball game Knockout City will go free-to-play sometime in Spring with the release of “season 6”. The game is currently on retail for €20.

    • Sony released a blog that revealed the new look of the PSVR headset. The PSVR2 headset will only work with the PS5 console. It will release in late 2022. No price announced. PSVR 2 will include an OLED display that boasts a total resolution of 4000 X 2040 pixels (that’s 2000 X 2040 per eye, slightly more than the Oculus Quest 2), a 110-degree field of view and include some sort of sensory feature in the headset itself (no need for a camera). The new PlayStation VR2 Sense controller was also revealed.

    • Bethesda’s PC launcher will retire from May. All Bethesda game library and credit will be migrated to Steam from April. Existing logins will also carry over to Steam for those who do not have a Steam account.

    • In a PC Gamer interview with Valve CEO, Gabe Newell, he stated he would not be interested in a launching a Steam equivalent of GamePass but would entertain GamePass coming to the Steam, especially given the imminent release of the Steam Deck.

    • Gabe Newell gave voice to his concern regards disallowing games on Steam to sell NFTs or which run off the blockchain. Newell expressed concern that when Steam allowed Bitcoin transactions between April 2016 to December 2017, half the transactions were “fraudulent”. He also added that the volatility of the Bitcoin price and the extra cost in processing Bitcoin transactions made it a false economy for Steam’s business.

    • The Uncharted film has made over a quarter of a billion at the box office (at the time of writing). Sony Pictures announced the film will form part of a new Uncharted cinematic franchise.

    • The Tokyo Games Show between 15-18 September will be a physical held event.
